Eat: Maco Cafe and Bakery, Johor

Found a mille crepe and coffee cafe gem lately and has been visiting them almost every week for the past few weeks...

Love the coffee there, it is sooo good, but the downside is i am losing my sleep over the caffeine.. will be great if they have caffeine-free coffee.

And the mille crepe cake doesn't disappoint... it is nice and not too rich so one can eat 1-2 pieces each time without feeling too much...

And hubby fall in love with their Baked Cheese cake..it is not too rich with a tinge of lemon taste... perfect! He even requested the cheesecake for his birthday this year!

Dine in and have a yummy slice of cake and coffee in their cafe... ambience is good and there are a few electric socket available.... free wifi is also available... with complimentary plain water.

Eat: Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh @ Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia

Introducing this famous Bak Kut Teh place off Kota Tinggi road...I was first brought here to taste this yummy bak kut teh by my dad, who came across this during one of his fishing trip.

I love the taste of the bak kut teh soup because it is very flavourful and one can taste that the soup is made from chinese herbs and not the ready-made bak kut teh packet. I love the strong herbal taste in the soup.... so whenever we have a chance to visit (e.g.: during our getaway to Desaru), we would detour slightly and savour this delicious bak kut teh.

Although this place is not on the main road, and basically no sign board until you are near to the destination, it is always full and most of the items will be sold out well before lunch. So do come early if you do not want to be disappointed.

Do not worry if it is ur first time here, as long as you are on the correct road, you can see a lot of car parked... you can also see many spore car who purposely drive here to eat...

The restaurant has a very rustic kampung look, one dine under the traditional atap leaves roof...

Crowd already forming
The ever famous bak kut teh top with crispy bean curd skin....

My first visit was few years back, and since i feel that the quality has dropped. The soup is not so flavourful compared to before, i can barely taste the herbs anymore... although the bak kut teh is still nicer than the bak kut teh sold elsewhere, but i am kinda disappointed that it is not as nice as before..

They also have some side orders: pig's stomach.. which is comforting for the stomach.

Pig Stomach
Cant remember the name of this dish.. my dad ordered it... but it is nice... the meat is soft and chewy..
Meat soup
Pig trotter is surprisingly good. love the collagen..
pig trotter
Salted vegetable is nice to goes with the soup..

We also had pig's kidney soup which came a bit later so didn't manage to take pic...

Price is reasonable, for all the items above plus 9 bowls of rice and a pot of tea, everything comes to RM102, which is really reasonable for 7 adults and 2 children.

Eat: TGIF, Johor Bahru, Malaysia

TGIF in JB has not disappoint us so far... Just across the causeway via First Link, price is cheaper compared to Singapore and their food are so far so good.

For those with kids, with every adult meal ordered, kids gets complimentary meal from the "Stars Menu", you can choose any one from the menu below.

Complimentary kids meal with any adult main course ordered

For my kiddos, both of them are fans of fries so they ordered fish and fries and chicken fingers with fries. It comes with a honey mustard sauce and the kids love them. Keep dipping the fries into the sauce, at the end of it, en xin even lick the sauce off the saucer.
Kid's Fish and Fries (complimentary)
Chicken Fingers with fries
Some of the main courses we ordered.

1. Wild Mushroom Farfalle is a mix of fresh crimini, shiitake and button mushroom with farfalle pasta in garlic sauce sprinkled with fresh Parmesan. Hubby ordered this, commented that it is ok only... nothing to shout about.

Wild Mushroom Farfalle , RM 19.90
2. Cowboy Triple Meat Burger, tender pieces of slow cooked BBQ beef, with melted Colby Cheese top with bacon and crispy frizzled onion. Brother in law ordered this, cause it is new on the menu... but he still prefers their conventional burger which he tried on previous occasions.

Cowboy Triple Meat Burger, RM 35.90
3. Championship BBQ Chicken, roasted half chicken top with Championship BBQ Sauce, served with cripsy onion rings and cheddar cheese mashed potatoes. This is one of MIL favourite, she never fails to order this whenever we come...she likes how the chicken is well marinated, and also commented that the mashed potatoes is very flavourful.

Championship BBQ Chicken, RM 33.90

4. Championship BBQ Beef Ribs, slow cooked beef rib until fall-off-the-bone tender, in championship BBQ sauce, serve with fries, onion rings and apple coleslaw. FIL loves this course, keep saying it is very nice. I tried a small piece as well, and indeed it is very flavourful. The meat goes very well with the BBQ sauce and is indeed very tender.

Championship BBQ Beef Ribs, RM 59.90
5. Sizzling Vegetable Fajitas, served hot with flour tortillas, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and Colby cheese. This is one of my favourite, the tortillas are really soft. Guacamole and the accompanion are very fresh. I usually ordered Chicken Fajita but decided to order vegetable fajita for a change,a little disappointed with some of the vegetables as they are not very cooked, so it is a bit hard (the broccoli and long bean), other than that, i have no other complain, love the tortilla that goes very well with the sauce.

Sizzling Vegetable Fajita, RM 33.90
6. For dessert, initially we wanted to order our usual favourite, it is their brownies but out of stock so ended up ordering chocolate lava cake and fried cheese cake.

Chocolate lava cake tasted like usual lava cake, nothing to shout about.

Fried cheesecake is a disappointment, a small piece of cheese cake wrap in popiah skin and fried.... well, they are just not a match for each other... trying too hard to fusion chinese popiah skin with western cheesecake... and it is a failure.. will never order this dessert again...the cheesecake pieces inside the popiah skin is also too small, can't really taste the cheesecake at all!

Eat: Cathay Restaurant at Horizon Hill, Johor

Had dinner at Cathay Restaurant Horizon Hill to celebrate my BIL's birthday.... Love the view from the restaurant as it overlooks the Horizon Hill's golf course. If you come on an afternoon, might be able to spot some golfer playing :) We went for dinner so not much people playing golf already.

This restaurant is also one of the popular spot for wedding dinner for those staying in the vicinity but there is no wedding dinner today, so the kids are playing on the stage...tsk tsk!

Playing at the stage while waiting for food
One of our favourite dish: Mongolian Chicken.. this item is not on the menu but one can just order it off the menu. Mongolian sauce is a bit peppery and goes well with white rice. We order a large portion for this...(sorry, can't remember the price as it is not on the menu, should be in the range or RM20plus to RM30plus)

Mongolion Chicken
Broccoli with black mushroom, this dish is a surprise, everyone likes it. Broccoli is fresh and crunchy and top with succulent black mushroom.

Broccoli with black mushroom, RM 24 small portion

Sambal kang kung, this  vegetable dish fare pale in comparison with the broccoli....

Sambal kang kung RM 14 for small portion
Prawn salad with fruits... deep fried prawn top with mayonnaise and cashew nut and fruits. What more can i say :)
Prawn salad RM40 small portion

Crispy fried cuttlefish with egg yolk... a dish that never goes wrong. Yum Yum!!! My cholesterol level is going haywire :((

Crispy fried cuttlefish with egg yolk RM 24 for small portion

Eat: Nasi Lemak Ayam at Restoran Arzhad Baru, Taman Skudai Baru, Johor

My favourite mamak stall... their nasi lemak is super yummy! Nested in the housing area of Taman Skudai Baru, this restaurant has been around for more than 10 years, it used to be the place that hubby and me went dating long time ago... and up until now, there are still many customers who will come and eat here.

Opens from 6pm daily and till late, this is one of the popular mamak place for people to come and chill with their friends. The seating areas are all outdoor on the roadside, isn't it cool? :)

Outdoor seating
One of the dish that i usually order: Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken. Love how their nasi lemak is always served hot, with lots of sambal (chilli), fried chicken, kacang(fried peanut) and ikan bilis (anchovies). Their nasi lemak is cooked with lemongrass, ginger and curry leaves which gives them a nice aroma and taste. Love how they fried their chicken, crispy and still maintain its juice. Their sambal is also well concocted... the combination is simply wonderful

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken, RM 4.50
Another of our favourites is Roti Tissue ...thin and crispy, drizzle with some sugar and condensed milk, what more can you ask for :)

Eat: Cha Siew Dumpling Spinach Noodle at Huang Kee Noodle, Bukit Indah, Johor

Today re-visited Huang Kee Noodle to try their spinach noodle. On my previous occasion, i tried their normal wantan mee and it is quite good. They also serve spinach noodle and tomatoes noodle, so today decided to try their spinach noodle. It was good! The noodle is springy (kiew kiew) and the sauce is good too,it goes well with the noodle and cha siew is roasted to perfection.

Each bowl cost RM 6.50 (comes with noodle and a bowl of soup with 4 dumplings). It is not very cheap for a bowl of wantan mee but i don't mind eating them once in a while :)

The shop is self service and with no air con, but they do provide baby chair for kids.

Close up of the noodle
Looks delicious!

Eat: Wan Chay Gou Restaurant, Skudai, Johor

Wan Chay Gou is one of the restaurant that we often patronise when we are back in JB and lazy to cook for dinner....because it is near my in-laws house and the food is generally not bad, with reasonable price too.

Sorry, i misplaced the receipt so won't be able to share the price of the food. But this meal cost less than RM 150 for 4 adults and 2 children so it is quite reasonable.

1. Yam ring with chicken...

Yummy yam ring fried to crisp and filled with stir fry chicken with vegetable and top with cashew...

2. Yam braised with pork..

Also one of their signature dish. hubby and in-law love it, not to my liking.

3. Stir fry sambal kang kung

Nicely done..

4. Steamed fish with "cai pu"

Love the salty cai pu complements well with the fish. Very tasty!
