Eat: The Kitchen at Bacchanalia (1 Michelin Star) Singapore

Kitchen at Bacchanalia, awarded 1 Michelin Star serves contemporary French cuisine at 39, Hong Kong Street, Singapore.

They serves 2 or 3 courses working lunch menu. Prices are reasonable compared to other Michelin Star Restaurant.

Best of all, still/sparkling water and unlimited bread supply is complimentary....

On top of that, OCBC card members get free upgrade from 2 to 3 courses meal when pay using OCBC credit card.

Parking can be an issue as there are limited parking space nearby. However, the restaurant do offer valet parking for its customer. Otherwise, take a cab here to save the trouble for parking.
Working lunch menu
We arrived at 12.30pm , just nice for our appointment. The restaurant has an open kitchen concept so you could watch while the chef prepare our food.

Once we sat down, we were asked if we would like still or sparkling water. We choose still water and was served promptly. For the kids, I asked for warm water and that was being served as well.

Table plating was nice and unique. Even the side plate for bread is very pretty.

Kids love to observe what is going on in the kitchen
We were then served bread and this is practically the highlight of the meal. The bread is very very good and freshly baked on the spot. Butter is very good as well. They are very observant and keep refilling our bread once we are finished, so we had a good supply of bread.
Bread and butter (complimentary and unlimited supply throughout appetiser and main course)
We were then served two complimentary starters. First up was beef. The waiter was very nice and asked if the kids would like to have the starter as well.

Even though we only ordered 2 set of 3 courses meals to share between 2 adults and 2 kids, the kids also get their share of complimentary appetiser :)

To be honest, I have to comment that their complimentary appetiser is much much better than the starter that we ordered.

The beef is very fresh and goes very well with the radish and some creamy sauce that was topped on it.
Complimentary appetizer- raw beef
Garlic soup sounded ewww but it is surprisingly very good!
Another complimentary appetiser-garlic soup with olive oil
Our starter on the other hand, was a bit of a disappointment.
Appetizer- White peach- french bean, almond and fois gras snow
Now for the main course, I had short rib which is ok, nothing fantastic but not bad either.
Main course- Braised short rib -beef
Mum ordered fish and its much better than my beef. She enjoyed it and shared it with the kids.

For dessert, it is the kids' favourite strawberries dessert and they practically finish the dessert themselves. I did manage to ate a mouthful. Not amazing, but tasted ok...
Strawberry Breton
Overall, the dining experience is pleasant but I was not wow-ed by its food... bread and complimentary appetiser is definitely my favourite during the meal.

Still, if one is looking to try a Michelin Star Restaurant and wanted a reasonable priced Michelin Star Restaurant, I will still recommend Kitchen at Bacchanalia for its excellent service and dining experience.

* Reservation is recommanded.

Now, lets take a look at the food....

These are what we ordered...

Fried Kuey Tiao-- generous serving of kuey tiao, fried with prawn, chinese sausage and fish cake , beansprouts. Yummy...
Fried Kuey Tiao
Prawn noodle- slightly spicy broth. Very flavourful prawn soup, served with prawn and hard boiled egg. Very good.. one of my favourite.
Prawn Noodle
Assam Laksa- this is a misses... doesn't taste much like the authentic Penang Assam Laksa....not recommended.
Asam Laksa
Fried Belachan Pork- tasted ok....
Belachan Pork
Chendol- quite a small serving. Gula Melaka taste is good but not as shiok as the one in Penang. Still, quite good for local Singapore standard...

Eat: Jai Thai, Singapore

Found this restaurant being recommended in one of the online blog. Hence, decided to give it a try. Indeed a very authentic Thai Restaurant. Highly recommended.

Menu 1
Menu 2
There is a 10% service charge on the price on the menu, no GST (included in the price already).

Most dishes comes in three sizes (Small, Medium and Large).

There are also set dishes.

For us, we ordered a la carte as we wanted to choose the dishes that we wanted.

Steam Squid in Lemon and Chilli, $8 (small size)
Mixed vegetable with mushroom, $10 (medium size)
Tom Yam Soup with Chicken , $7 (small size)
Chicken with cashew nut , $10 (medium)
Fishcake ($2.50 each)
Prawn Cake- very yummy (non-spicy)- $2.50 each
Sweet and Sour Fish- medium $12

Overall, I think the quality of the food is above average and definitely authentic Thai. Prices are reasonable and size of the dishes are reasonable as well.

Water is not complimentary though, the restaurant charge $0.30 for a glass of plain water.

Recommended if craving for Thai food.

Eat: The Tiramisu Hero, Singapore

The Tiramisu Hero specialise in different variety of tiramisu. Chanced upon the shop after lunch at Jalan Besar. Being a tiramisu lover, of course I would like to give it a try.

Besides tiramisu, the restaurant also serves western main courses. As we just had our lunch, we just opt for dessert and coffee.

Tiramisu comes in different sizes. Mini, momma (medium) and papa (large). We ordered medium but to be honest, the size is rather small. I really wonder how "mini" version looks like.

For medium tiramisu, it costs $7.50++ for normal flavour (original, strawberry, matcha etc) and for premium flavour cost $9.50++ (bailey).

We ordered one original and one strawberry (both medium size).

Strawberry tiramisu and original tiramisu
Taste wise, I would say it is quite good for tiramisu (though not the nicest I have tried), price wise a bit pricey considering the size. It would be better if the size could be bigger. One plus point is they have different flavour so for those who are not a big fan of the usual tiramisu, one could opt for strawberry or matcha or even other flavour.

Coffee is wonderful.... love it...

Matchiato $4.50++
Piccolo Latte $4
In case you are wondering what is piccolo latte (i asked the same question), it is just the size of the latte. The menu serves both normal sized latte or a smaller cup of latte which is named as piccolo latte.

Eat: International Buffet at Colony, Ritz Carlton Hotel (Singapore)

September school holiday has started and I brought the kids around Singapore to sight see the local attractions. They have recently learn about the Merlion, Singapore River and Esplanade as a part of getting to know Singapore syllabus during National Day (couple of weeks ago) so I thought it would be quite nice to bring them to these places while it is still fresh in their mind.

After visiting the Esplanade, we walked over to Ritz Carlton Hotel for a lunch treat. The review online is good and kids below 6 years old eat for free so we have decided to dine here.

The selection is wide and the quality of food is good.

For the appetiser, there is really lots of choices....

Appetizer...
Their cheese is very nice and yummy. My son kept refilling the camerbet cheese.
Selection of cheese
There is also a selection of cured meat for the Italian lovers...
Selection of cured meat..
Huge selection of bread...
My favourite is the Alaskan Crab, it is really very fresh, succulent and sweet..I had to have a second serving.
Cold selection..
The staff who is taking care of our section is very attentive. Once she sees that we took the Alaskan Crab, she came over and place the crab cracker on our table. She also gives us some lemon water to wash our hand.

Salad selection is quite wide for those who loves salad. I only tried the duck meat, didnt manage to try the rest.
Wide variety of mix and match salad
There is also some sashimi and sushi section which I did not manage to take the photos.

For the hot food,

there is also a huge selection (chinese stir fry, western, indian, noodle soup, pasta, roasted chicken rice, malay satay etc)- definitely you will have something that you like...

I did not manage to take photo of each and every dishes... these are some of the one that I took

Cereal prawn is HUGE!
Pineapple rice
Kung Pao Chicken
Popadom and Nan Bread
Curry and Biriyani
Sauces for Indian cuisine
Fish infused with curry sauce- love the presentation of this dish
Satay.. I did not try but the kids love it!
Lamb stew, roasted chicken
Brocollini, pumpkin

Roast beef
My favourite is the desserts.....they are all so pretty looking and a couple of them is really very very good!

The only downside is there is no sign for the desserts so I am not sure what is what.. have to take and try....

Selection of desserts...
So nice and colourful
Chocolate tart, yum!
Pretty swiss roll, i didnt try but my daughter likes it!
These are amazing. Hazelnut praline in chocolate, super yummy. I had a couple...
I didnt try this...
I didnt try this too but looks pretty
Tiramisu, Oh.. this is super good!
Pretty cake with tonnes of raspberry
Some custard cake...

Chocolate mousse , this is so so only..
Fruits in jelly
Selection of truffles, chocolates and sweets (the truffle and chocolate is nice!)
Local kueh selection.
Fruits
Ice cream

Some of the things we ate...

Cold platter.. love the alaskan crab and the camembert cheese
Drinks are inclusive in the buffet. You can get the cappuccino , coffee or tea and the staff will serve it to you. Warm and cold water on request, served on the table as well. Fruit juices can be obtain from the station (apple, orange, mango, grapefruit, cin cao, blueberry ice tea- so many choices for the fruit juices)
Capuccino
Lobster ball from the noodle booth...
Crepe suzette (made on site when requested- very very yummy)
Tiramisu which I adore...
Ice cream and chocolate...
Overall, I think this buffet is really nice. Prices for weekday lunch is pretty reasonable and there is a couple of credit card discount (DBS, UOB and Citibank). Selection is really good and the spread is very fresh, dessert is very tasty and the hot food selection is good too! Lots of variety to suits everyone's need. There is not much lunch buffet that serves Alaskan Crab so I think that is a steal. Kids below 6 eats for free which is good (as most buffet have the age limit of 4 or 5).

Staff is very attentive and they clear the plates fast. Thumbs up for that!
